REVISED PROPOSAL:
MICRO RETAIL

The enhancements to the public realm along Markham Street, the retention of additional heritage buildings and the provision of on-site parkland, contributed to changes to the built form that provide for Honest Ed’s Alley to be retained in its original location. In large part, the revised proposal is as a result of retaining the full 3-dimensional form of the heritage houses on the east side of Markham Street that required the Markham building to shift towards the east. The resulting tower shift accommodates Honest Ed’s Alley in its current location.

Envisioned as an extension of the public realm, and extending through the site from Lennox to Bloor street, the retention of Honest Ed’s Alley in its existing location allows for even more microretail space and enhanced pedestrian porosity.

  • Inspired by the laneways of Melbourne, the new Honest Ed’s Alley will improve the access and walkability of the site—providing a new route from Lennox to Bloor—and enhance the Mirvish Village public realm.
  • The new Honest Ed’s Alley will provide a home for a range of fledgling small businesses. Flexible lease terms, “right-sized” premises and shared infrastructure will, in conjunction with a vibrant physical environment, create favourable conditions for entrepreneurial success.
  • With a brand-new central plaza featuring a purpose-commissioned public art installation, Honest Ed’s Alley will become a vibrant gathering space for residents, Torontonians, and tourists alike.
