Note: Park design is conceptual only.

UPDATED PROPOSAL:
SPACE FOR NEIGHBOURLINESS

The new park on the west side of Markham builds upon the vibrant public realm experience, providing amenity space that incorporates public art and opportunities for play and recreation. Frontage onto Markham Street directly across from the Mirvish Village Market will allow the spaces to spill out and extend the public realm experience. The extent of the park will weave into the adjoining spaces, extend behind the heritage houses and will be carried into the lanes by the expression of the continuous ground plane treatment.

Most of us want more contact with the people next door or next street, but where does this happen? In addition to the new Markham Street, our design includes a range of spaces from through-block alleys to mini-plazas to Mirvish Village Market itself. These are all catalytic zones for engagement that are designed in to Mirvish Village.

  • To enhance the pedestrian experience along Bloor & Bathurst, Mirvish Village will setback building faces – thereby doubling existing sidewalk widths.
  • The corner of Bloor and Bathurst will become home to a grand new covered public plaza, serving as a gathering place to shelter from the elements and as a signature entry to Mirvish Village Market.
  • Mirvish Village will feature a variety of new pedestrian pathways, enabling more connections “as the crow flies” through the site.
